being real? let me try.

Ministry is tiring at times or should I say life? I have been tired for a few days now…I wonder if it the weather and all?! hmm…How does one deal with the struggles of life that come? I wonder how some people do it.

I am encouraged by older, wiser ministers who care enough to help young kids like me. I got to talk to Adam Hammond , youth pastor in Belleview, Florida. He was a great influence and leader for Cassidy, my lovely girlfriend growing up. We talked for a while today and one thing he told me went like this:

“when the bad times come, I’ve learned to now look at it in a negative way, I might feel like it, but I know that we truly find out who we are when we are in the fire.”

He also said:

“I have found out who I truly am in Christ through the pains and struggles of ministry. I wouldn’t have found my character or strength if I had never dealt with it.”

So many people go through pain and struggle…I keep asking of myself, is it me not being willing to grow through the struggle?

I’m still searching God’s Word on some answers to why it must be so hard to keep a joyful spirit and positive outlook. I do know that God is so good, He loves me and each person so much. He is my source, He has always gotten me through any and every struggle I have ever faced. Jesus gets the glory, Jesus gets the praise!

I pray that I learn this lesson…Not just talk about it to students, smile and talk to people at church, but living to praise Jesus in the good and bad times!

David writes an awesome prayer to God here in Psalm 143:8:

“Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift my soul.”

I want the students at Celebration Baptist Church to be revolutionized by Jesus. I want God to move in a powerful way. That is my prayer and heartbeat.

reaching people?

Hey blog world…

I’ve really enjoyed blogging…mainly because I think it is a great way to write what God is doing but also to read and learn more about other ministries. I’ve been so blessed in my life with a godly example…My Dad has been a personal witness for Jesus and is not ashamed of the gospel. He has been in ministry for around 30 years and has wisdom and passion that has not gone down with his age. I think about that a lot.

How does a person maintain their passion and desire for God?

I’m reminded of memories growing up being in the store and it would take longer to get out of the store because my dad would get to know people and find a way to bring up Jesus. I know…i know what you’re thinking…”Well that is crazy, nobody wants to be confronted or talked too in the store about God!” or “That might offend them!”
yeah…as a kid I thought that as well. But as I look and see the “trendiness” of churches and the focus upon convenience, perfect accomodations, pretty lights, etc. I am not sure people are truly hearing the gospel of Jesus. Sure, it is great to have nice stuff, but if there is not clear communication of the cross and repentance then people will go to hell. It is simple as that. When are we going to hear the cross?? What about brokenness and revival? I sure want God to move in this country. Lord help us.

I don’t know…i’m just throwing ideas out there. The Jesus I see is not one that looks at how comfortable his life can be, but giving of Himself even sacrificing His life so that others can be saved! Are we reaching for more souls or reaching for bigger crowds?

Hmm…back to growing up. I just am so blessed to have seen my dad, brothers and mom desire to see people come to know Jesus. I just talked to my mom last night and their church is buying CD’s explaining the gospel in a relevant way to pass out to the University in town. God continues to show me that it is simple…reach people with Jesus.

Now the method of evangelism must be always be changing and creative, but if the end result is just to have people show up to church, then we are filling our churches with lost people that do not know they are lost.

anyways, I am only 23, just have a bachelors degree…so I do not have it all figured out!!! But what I do know is that Jesus came to seek and save the lost. That is what I want to be about. Reaching people for Jesus…

Any wisdom on this is appreciated?

That all may know the truth…

What will it take to show the world Jesus?

It is a question I ponder on a regular basis…It is hard for my mind to wrap around the concept of reaching people all over the world, different cultures and languages! The amazing part of the gospel of Jesus is that is not just an “American” thing. It is the greatest story of all time. Jesus came and went through all that we as humans go through and lived a sinless life…then died for our sins on the cross because of His great love for us. wow…the world wants to know about this Savior named Jesus.

The kicker is this…they want someone to show Jesus to them.

In Matthew 9:37-38 it says:
“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Jesus said this right after in v. 36 that He had compassion for the people. Jesus knew their state and knew they were helpless without a relationship with Him.

Wow…let that sink in…people are like sheep without a shepherd. The harvest is ready, people are all over Jacksonville that need a relationship with God…Are we prepared to work the fields?

It is a reminder to me that we this time on earth for a specific purpose. To reach people with Jesus. When we go to Heaven, there will be no need to share about Jesus…we are finished…we get to worship God for eternity! Amazing…

While we are here on earth…let us have compassion on people and be ready to share Jesus through our lifestyle and our words to them…

God loves you so much. He does not need your or me, but He wants us.

Elevate this week…

Had a great time at Tim Flower’s wedding last Saturday! I got to see one of my best friends get married to a great girl. I got to be in the wedding so it was a lot of fun to be a part of it. God is going to use both of them in a mighty way.

I’m excited about student ministry. It pumps me up to see students that are hungry for God and His Word. I am always thinking of what students need to learn about God and their relationship with Him. At Elevate we will be jumping into how to create habits that will change their life. Studying His word, how to read the Bible, How to have a quiet time?

I have been learning more and more that God is sufficient for my life. In every way, God has shown me that I’m nothing without Him. My desire is to become more like Jesus every day. I want God to invade my life and fill me with His presence. I want to see a revival of students in this church that has never been seen before. I am praying specifically that students turn to God and cry out for Him.

It will be sweet to see what God does!

Philippians 2:8-11 “And being formed in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name. so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Jesus loves you

pumped up…

Last night at Elevate it was awesome to see God work in the youth group. I’m still reminded that when God’s Spirit moves, any wall can come down. My prayer is that students lives to be changed and desire Jesus more than anything else. God is so good.

I just have to say…one of my best friends is getting married this Saturday! I’m really excited to see him and my brother and all my friends from college.
My brother will be in Jacksonville this weekend and we’ll get to hang out and all. It will be good times. I just remember the times when we were at college and all we had to worry about was going to class and when to eat in the cafeteria…now we are all spread out at churches, seminary or working. It will be a blast to see them again and have fun.

Reminder…SKI TRIP DEPOSIT DUE SUNDAY!!!! $50…Lock in your spot, we only have limited space!!!!!

Man’s need and God’s Word…

One thought for the day…

I think a lot about ministry today in 2007. We have people that over 50% have never experienced two parents at home. Some have never had a loving Father or Mother…Many people ask questions of, “Why am I hurting?” “Why do I have to go through all this pain?” The questions keep coming…

What is the church of Jesus responding with? I’m burdened for the students of this generation. My heart breaks when I see the pain in their lives. I remember why God called me to be a student pastor.

Psalm 17: 6-7 “I call upon you, for you will answer me O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words. Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand.”

What an amazing cry from Psalms. David cries out to God…Does that mean he is weak? Well in today’s view of man, it means he is weak and doesn’t have strength…
but we serve a God that uses us when we are broken and weak. He is the strength, He is the power. God’s Spirit is who comforts us, who convicts us, who enlightens scripture so we can know the heart of God.

When I listen to people and their needs I wonder about why we make it so difficult to reach them with Jesus. It is simply loving people, listening to them and understanding their pain and needs. This is the kicker…are you ready?

Jesus always met people right where they were at (messy and sinful) and changed their life.

That is what the “church” must make priority. Falling in line with God’s Will and meeting people’s needs with God’s Word.

It takes understanding the people effectively to lead them to follow Christ.
It is simply not standing and preaching a sermon, writing a blog, showing up to church…It is each Christian being available to show love and prepared to speak about Jesus whenever they get the opportunity.

Love God. Love people.
It does not have to be hard. God will bless us when we fall in line with His Will….Do we always know His will? No…but He will show it when we are ready.

Are you ready to meet people’s needs with God’s Love and His word?
